The countdown starts at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2016
There is a change in the air at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia this year. Probably the biggest change is the move in dates to May and a new focus on Resort collections.
For the first time, Cynthia Rowley will travel to Sydney to show the brands ready-to-wear, swimwear and her signature wetsuits. Chinese designer, Yuxin Zhang will also be showing her first Resort Collection at MBFWA this year. Closing this year’s event with his Australian runway debut will be Oscar De la Renta with sponsorship from Etihad Airways. This all puts an international spotlight on the entire event.
Etihad has signed on to sponsor 17 of the WME/IMG fashion events around the world, which includes Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia. If an airline were to sponsor a major fashion event, this would be the airline of choice from my own experiences. For starters, the flight attendant uniform is probably one of the most stylish around. Italian haute couture designer Ettore Bilotta has reinvented the Etihad cabin crew look. Elegant berets, print scarves and pencil skirts. The new designs scream stylishness and they look more like fashion statements than uniform.
With less than one week to go till Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia, I thought it would only be fitting that I showcase some of the best in Street Style from outside the shows last year.
Lets be serious here. This is certainly not New York, Milan or Paris and should not be compared in any way. What Sydney does have is that fresh, quintessential and friendly attitude that Australians are known for globally. This definitely reflects in what is seen on the runways and what Australia’s fashion elite are wearing outside the shows.
